Running A Workshop

ImageWell, it looks like I'll be running a workship at the next regional gathering on April 25th.  Our regional pastor was impressed with serveral things about how we presented worship last Sunday when he came to preach:

  1. We did announcements using the projector.  Actually, we hadn't done that in a while but since I had the week off from preaching I decided to take it up again (I really need to train someone to do this).
  2. I was actually the first person to ask him if he had any projection materials he wanted to use during his sermon.
  3. We had a bluegrass band play the congregational music on Sunday - and they've been invited to the after Easter event as well.
Lee wants me to do an hour seminary on "Multi-media in worship," which is a bit like giving me an hour to get through volume one of an encyclopedia while covering every topic.  So I'm trimming...

Instead of trying to cover how "to-do" announcements, sermon slides, and lyrics using a projection system - I'm going to concentrate on the basic tools needed to do the job (believe it or not, a lot of Churches really don't have the first clue when it comes to using a screen).  I'll show people the tools I use to complete the job (and give away CD's will all the software I used burned on them - it's all Open Source), but I'm not going to say, "OK, here's how you create a text-box."  It'll be about the reasons to do it, the tools needed, and questions.

This will, however, get people wanting to look into how they use the tools (at least, I hope so).  So, what I'm thinking is that I design a couple of more seminars that actually deal with the "in's and out's" of setting up the projected materials for a worship gathering.  One for runnin OpenLP, one on designing liturgy and announcements, and another on using it in conjunction with a sermon. I figure I could charge $10 or $15 a head for these - pay the church a building useage fee, and then take a small percentage of the proceeds for my own time and effort (it's not a trivial matter) - while depositing the rest into the CrossPoint account (I'm not sure what would be an appropriate split there - I'll have to converse with people).

Anyway, I hope people are interested enough to want more and come to some training seminars.  Heck, I've already written a manual for OpenLP (that needs to be updated) for my lyric-squad, so I'm off to a good start.

Awsome! I never knew you wrote a manual for OpenLP! Is there a chance that i could come into contact with this document?

Contrary to popular belief I am actually quite interested in the seeming "techno wizardry" you seem to employ with ease. (I know it is alot of work and really isn't magic but it still comes off as really cool!). And I would be interested in such seminars.
