Purpose: To allow communion participants an opportunity to obey the commands for self-examination found in 1 Corinthians 11 - as well as giving an opportunity for a positive movement by echoing Jesus' statement in Gethsemane, "Not my will but yours be done." Materials Needed: - A Large Cross
- A Table
- A basket (for the shredded confessions)
- Scripture Print-outs:
- 1 Corinthians 11:26
- 1 Corinthians 11: 28 - 29
- Question Print-outs:
- Do you have any un-confessed sins?
- Do you believe that Jesus’ body and blood have brought forgiveness for your sins?
- Images:
- Crucifixion Scenes
- Communion Elements
- Blank Scratch Paper
- Pencils
- Cards printed with, "Not my will but yours be done"
- Tape
Set-Up: - Set up the table and place the cross next to the right end (participants will flow from left to right). Set the basket at the foot of the cross.
- Place the station instructions at the left end of the table and make sure there is enough light for people to read them comfortably.
- Place the Scripture Print-outs and the two Questions at the center-point of the table. Again, be sure there is enough light for people to read.
- Set the images of Jesus' crucifixion and Communion elements around the Scriptures and the Questions.
- Immediately next to the questions, set up the scratch paper and pencils.
- At the right end of the table, set up the pre-printed cards.
Instructions: - Read the two Scripture passages which are presented on the table.
- Read the two questions and spend some time meditating on your answers.
- Write down any un-confessed sin on the provided slips of paper.
- Fold the paper up and carry it to the cross.
- While standing before the cross pray a prayer of repentance, asking God to forgive your sin and empower you to live a life more conformed to God’s will.
- After saying the prayer, tear up the slip of paper which has your confessed sin written on it. Throw the shreds into the basket next to the cross.
- Pick up on of the cards labeled, "Not my will but yours be done" and attach it to the cross.
- Proceed to the Communion station.
