Lent... PDF Print E-mail

ImageWell, it' s Lent again.  I actually look foward to this time of year.  Unlike the other big season of repentance and preparation, Advent, Lent feels "intensely laid back."  There's no four week "Easter Rush," and that makes a big difference.

This year I'm turning off the computer from Noon until Six O'Clock (except on Sundays, since you're not supposed to fast on the Lord's Day).  I practiced the same discipline last year, and found it to be a bit of a challenge, so I'm doing it again.  I have some skill in this area of my life, what I'm desiring is some discipline.  I can't believe how much time I spend on the computer!  It's my desk, filing cabinet, rolodex, communication hub, and entertainment center all rolled into one!  During the six hours my laptop is shut down, I actually feel a bit cut off from the world!  As such, it' a very good idea for me to unplug during Lent.

I'm replacing a good amount of that time doing even more reading than I normally do, which I'll be blogging on over the course of Lent (yes it's ironic to do a partial fast from the computer and then blog on the discipline you're filling the fast with - but I need some place to reflect).  I'm also busy playing Kirby with my Son on our DS - he plays for a while and then I beat the bosses for him (I think he likes to make me feel involved).  I'm going to be working on discipling a new guy at Central too, so I think I'll read John both for my own nourishment and to prepare for my journey with him.

All in all, I do so look forward to this time of year - now I just need to beat off time-sucking activities with a stick!
