Well, week two of BE is over and week three has already begun (having the weeks begin and end on the same day is very confusing, CrossPoint is always a week ahead of Sunday School). I have to say that it's been an encouragement at the number of people who have been consistent with this so far - and the fact that so many people have done the "work outs" beyond even the scope of what I've asked them to do is very encouraging (of course, tell them that I'd end the group if they didn't doesn't hurt). Many people have gone out of their way to talk with people that they know will give challenging answers - and I hope they're learning how to accept those answers with grace and charity as we learn again what it means to "image" Jesus in this world. Here's some reflections on the past week...
- First off, I've been having a TON of fun with making the videos. The video that corresponds to the week two workout can now be downloaded here (note: To save some bandwidth and server-space I've taken the link of this video down so I can upload week four's video. If you're still interested in seeing this video, e-mail me and I'll get it to you. Thanks, wezlo). The youth group is goign to be a regular fixture I think - the adult interviews were literally "on the street" of Riverton and Palmyra. I think people might get tired of seeing me every week so if you have any other ideas of where I can go drop me a line. I'd love to hit a mall but I'm not sure what their policy is and I can't pay anything to do this.
- The journey is already having it's desired effect - people are having their typical understanding of Evangelism challenged and they are being given an alternative paradigm to work within (which I think is more Biblical). Shifts like this are always difficult, and only succeed through a lot of struggle. Keep us in prayer because I can see how people are going to be wrestling with this. What we want to happen is for people to develope a Biblical resonance with evangelism - while keeping an ear to the people they meet in the world so that resonance may be used with humility, wisdom, and love.
- One really cool thing is how one of the college students from our congregation is participating in the journey while at her school. We go through the study through IM and, because of the persistant nature of the Internet, actually end up in a deeper conversation on the devotional aspects of where we're going. This is a good thing, and I think it bodes well for doing some more Christian development through the Internet in the future.
- It's been about a 90% positive experience so far for me - which isn't the goal but is really nice. I've found that it's really fun to develope and preach through a Biblical theology while having the sermons colored through what we encounter in the studies. To be honest, I think I'm going to have to have a group of people working through things with me from now on, this is just good.
- Anyway, thanks for your prayers, this is turning out to be what I hoped it would be so far, but Kingdom work is never a "sure thing" from our standpoint, it's an uphill struggle.
