Purpose: To give worshipers an experience of sightlessness - forcing them to trust that their sight will be returned.
Materials Needed:
- A slide-show consisting of various images of "blinding light"
- A print-out of Acts 9:4-9
- blind-folds
- A volunteer to be the "station guide"
Set Up:
- Hang the print-out of Acts 9:4-9 so it can be easily read.
- Set up the slide show of "blinding light" (images.google.com is your friend)
- Scatter the blind-folds on the table.
Practice:
- Encourage worshipers to come and read the print out of Acts 9:4-9
- After reading the passage, have worshipers spend time viewing the slide-show.
- When they are ready, worshipers should become blind, by putting on a blind-fold.
- Blind-folded worshipers will wait for the station guide to come
and guide them, greeting them with a paraphrase of Acts 9:16, "Let me
show you how much you must suffer for the name of Christ."
- The station guide will lead worshipers to the the communion table, or another prayer area (note: we didn't do this, but setting up a prayer station that had various icons of martyrs would be a good idea) - they will then remove the blind-fold saying, "Brother/sister [name], receive your sight."
