Well, it's over. All I can say is...wow.
First off, there is something cool about seeing folks walking around with a book wrote - so that was really cool just from the get-go. Other than that, well...it's been an interesting ride. On the surface, BE seems to have been a success. The vast majority of folks who started in BE completed the movement, which was a good sign. Also, most folks actually managed to do their work outs, and as the movment progressed people even managed to invite people to worship and have them look at it from their perspective. As a wonderful plus, the friends my wife and I invited to worship have been coming regularly since I invited them (and they didn't even particularly care for our worship the first week!). Worship attendance has been up in general over the course of BE - which is also nice. It's still below what it was when I got here - but it's nice to be going in another direction there.
Under the surface, I've been unsure where BE has been going. Folks are hard to get a read on much of the time, and when you're deliberately attempting to stretch their minds - well, let's just say that I wasn't sure if this was the start of something cool of if I was gong to loose all my credibility here by the time BE was over. It turns out, BE seems to be hitting somewhere deep. Here's a link to the video that we viewed for the last week of BE. I got it down to 59.4mb from 71mb. I'm working on shrinking the video even more (assistance would be most welcomed...).

Well, week 10 is over and week 11 has begun. It's been an interesting ride, and the last "official" week of BE looks like it'll keep up that trend.
In many ways, week 10 is the lesson that ties the whole movement together. It takes the focus for the other BE distinctives (Mighty Acts Of God, Ethical Uniqueness, Insurmountable Perseverance) and pours them into this last distinctive, the Image of Christ. Really, that's where it all comes down to - if folks don't see Jesus through us then all those other distinctives don't really mean all that much in terms of evangelism. Ultimately, God needs to be seen in Jesus Christ for evangelism to really happen (we're talking post-incarnation here). A video that corresponds to week ten's work out can be downloaded here . Well, week nine is finished. Things are still progressing fairly nicely - this week folks had to read portions of the Sermon on the Mount and ask some questions of non-churchy folks based on their readings. Just about everyone did it, and since the work outs are really the point of this movement that encourages me.
I think the schedule is starting to catch up with me though. This past Sunday's sermon was by far the worst in the series, it was one of those times where the outline you wrote down can't get back into your head and you find yourself thinking while you preach. Not good. BE's got two more weeks left, and then we'll go through the Easter cycle - after that, I need some time off. Let me tell you though, it's been worth it. There's nothing like seeing some folks slowly wake up as your progress though a movement like this. A video corresponding to week nine's work out can be downloaded here . Well, week eight is complete. This week revolved around the nature of ethical uniqueness from a NT perspective - specifically by looking at passages in the Sermon on the Mount. The video for this week can be downloaded here . For those of you who read my blog, two of the folks interviewed this week are from Jenny's Java Joint - which I blogged about a couple of weeks ago.
Here's some reflections on this week. Be first to comment this article | Add as favourites (0) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 609 |

Well, week 7 is over and done with, this was the "hump week" with the work out that was going to make or break many people. More on that in a second. The video for this week can be downloaded here .
Week 7 looks at "The Mighty Acts of God" from a New Testament perspective. In the three passages we read, the mighty acts God does shows the reality of the Kingdom breaking into this world. It's kinda cool.. Be first to comment this article | Add as favourites (0) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 529 |
